FREE CONCERT with
The Lucky Tomblin Band
Long Center City Terrace
Friday, April 29 6:30pm – dusk
The Long Center for the Performing Arts announces the first in a series of free concerts to take place on the Long Center City Terrance. The kickoff concert for this series, Texas Swing Into Spring with the Lucky Tomblin Band, will take place on Friday, April 29 from 6:30p.m. until dusk. This event is free to the public and tickets do not need to be secured in advance.
The Long Center invites the community to share and explore the music of the Lone Star State through honky-tonk, western swing, blues, rock 'n' roll, Tex-Mex, blue-eyed soul, and traditional country music.
Lucky Tomblin, songwriter and lead vocalist in the band, first sang in public at the Grand Ole Opry Show in San Antonio with Roger Miller, Little Jimmy Dickens and Ray Price. Dynamic Records’ Abe Epstein signed him, and his first single, the folk-rock “On My Love,” was a regional hit. He played nightclubs and shared stages with such friends as Jackie King, Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers and the West Side Horns. In the 1980s, he founded The Fire Station recording studio in San Marcos, Texas and began to produce the likes of the Texas Tornados, Joe Ely, Flaco Jimenez, Jerry Jeff Walker and Omar and the Howlers. The Lucky Tomblin Band won the 2007-2008 Academy of Western Artists Pure Country Duo/Group of the Year Award. Today the band is composed of Earl Poole Ball on piano, Redd Volkaert on lead guitar, Sarah Brown on bass, John Reed on guitar, Jon Hahn on drums and Bobby Arnold on rhythm guitar.
Come join James O’Dell from the Broken Spoke at the Texas Swing Into Spring Free Concert for Two-Step lessons from 6:30pm – 7:00pm.
